Trail running has been part of my life ever since my time on the cross country team in high school. Not only is it a great way to stay in shape, for me it’s also about exploring, taking a break, and getting in touch with myself and nature. Usually, it’s also a time to unplug – I leave my phone in the car and let anyone trying to contact me know I’ll be unapologetically unreachable for the next hour or so.
After a stressful week, I decided to take advantage of a rainy day (and thus an empty park) to relax with a steady four miles. The natural beauty of this park and its variety keeps me entertained – there’s always something I never noticed before and new trails have consistently been added each year.
On this particular day, a light rain created a new and unusual place out of an old, familiar one. I made an exception to my “no phone” rule and took it with me to capture the shots below. Now, I’m able to share the winding trails, Midwest vistas, and vibrant greenery of this hidden gem with all of you. Please enjoy the gallery.
